Dog Clipper Reviews: Andis vs. Oster

Before buying dog clippers, read these reviews

Welcome to the Daily Dachshund and Dog News, a site I founded in 2007 to bring you high-quality dog news, reviews and information (and other Doxie stuff that’s just plain fun.)

If you’re trying to decide between Andis or Oster dog clippers, the Daily Dachshund can help. I put together these clipper reviews because when I searched for dog clipper info on the web all I found was sketchy, spammy stuff. I know how frustrating that can be and I wanted to help others avoid the big time-suck and, instead, quickly and efficiently find the dog clippers that work best for their breed.

Since Andis and Oster are widely considered the best dog clippers in the business, I’m sticking with them.

Andis Dog Clippers Reviews

Andis: Why dog groomers love Andis

I bought my first Andis Clippers after making the mistake of buying a cheap pair and driving both myself and my dog crazy. Once I invested in the right equipment it was smooth sailing. (Think of it as finally buying a good pair of kitchen knives)

I do a major grooming four to eight times a year and my 12-year-old clippers are still going strong. After just two groomings, I had already saved money seeing as my old groomer used to charge $60 a pop.

While it did take me a while to learn some of the tricks of the trade and my dog had a few bad hair days at first, that’s happened with professional groomers too. And I’ve even had professional groomers cut my dog, something I’ve never done.

If you decide to start grooming your dog at home, good clippers will help you work safer and faster so consider it an investment. Andis has served me well and their reputation for customer service and high-quality products is well deserved.

Oster Dog Clipper Reviews

Oster: Pro and home groomers love Oster Dog Clippers

Here’s the thing. Whether you choose Oster over Andis or Andis over Oster, it’s six of one and half a dozen of another. I started with Andis, but other groomers on my dog sites swear by Oster. In the end, it comes down to what suits you and your dog(s) best. Both Oster and Andis users are pretty happy campers, according to the many Amazon reviews.
