British controversy over purebreds heats up

Ever since the BBC aired its documentary on the heath problems of purebred dogs this summer, the British Kennel Club has found itself in deep doodoo. Leading charities, including the RSPCA, have announced they will no longer particpate in Crufts dog show and the Beeb itself may no longer broadcast it.

Now the Kennel Club says it will monitor purebred health problems, but the Terrierman, a long-time critic of Kennel Clubs, says that’s ridiculous. “Fat ladies who have never dug to a dog will decide what a working Teckel looks like, and it will be about the paper not the dog?” he asks.

Fat chance.
