Another kids book starring a wiener dog

In a roundup of bear books for children, the San Francisco Chronicle gives a thumbs-up to yet another new Dachshund book for kids:

A deferential stuffed bear again models the meaning of friendship in Dog and Bear: Two’s Company by Laura Vaccaro Seeger (Roaring Brook; 27 pages; $12.95; ages 3-7). In this welcome sequel to last year’s award-winning “Dog and Bear: Two Friends. Three Stories,” he indulges his friend, a dachshund who is dramatic, undisciplined and a bit demanding, too.

Crisp white pages contain simple drawings outlined in black and filled with cheery color. The simple art teams with simple text to recount fresh but recognizable mini-dramas. In three amusing chapters, Dog threatens to run away, eats Bear’s birthday cake solo and requires full service when under the weather.

  1. Book

Kids love animals. I’m always on the hunt for great children’s books and have recently discovered Bayard and their series of StoryBoxBooks, AdventureBoxBooks and DiscoveryBoxBooks (which is a special Olympic edition) They have work by acclaimed children’s books illustrator Helen Oxenbury appearing in the Storybox series for September. In addition to this, they also have some great activities for rainy days: http://www.storyboxbooks.com/potatoprinting.php, http://www.adventureboxbooks.com/macaroni-picture-frames.php, http://www.discoveryboxbooks.com/skittles.php Enjoy!
